The Sterling Fire Department responds to approximately 1,300 calls a year, including 750 fire calls and 375 emergency medical assist calls.
The average number of calls the Fire Department receives a day is 3.69 calls.
Sterling Fire Department Mission Statement
It is the mission of the Sterling Fire Department to protect and preserve the life, property, and well-being of the residents of Sterling and the visitors to the surrounding area. We strive to accomplish this mission proactively, professionally, and respectfully through quality training, fire prevention education, and community engagement.
Coverage Area
The Sterling Fire Department provides emergency services to the City of Sterling and by contract to the Sterling Rural Fire Protection District. Additionally, the Department has an automatic aid agreement with the Rock Falls Fire Department and participates in the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) Division 30 to aid surrounding departments.
Operating out of 2 stations in Sterling, the Department utilizes 19 firefighters, 3 paid on call firefighters and a fleet of 11 vehicles to provide firefighting services, first responder services, and search and rescue operations and extrication. The Department's primary coverage area encompasses more than 25,000 people and 87 square miles.
