Hello, I am Skip Lee, your Sterling Mayor.  I was born in San Diego, California and came to the Rock River Valley in August of 1972.  In between those times, I graduated from high school in Arcola, Illinois and from Eastern Illinois University.  Later I received a Masters degree from the University of Illinois, Urbana.

My wife and I moved to Sterling in 1979 to our current residence on West 13th Street.  Since that time, we raised three children.  John, 27, lives in Lakewood, Colorado; Will, 26, is an attorney and lives in Sterling; and Jennifer, 23, attends Eastern Illinois University.  Sue and I have two grandchildren:  Amelia, 2, and Olivia, 3.  Our other two “children” are a dachshund (Mya) and a Siamese cat (Jinx).

I recently retired as chemistry instructor and Science Department Chair at Rock Falls High School after 38 years.  I teach Biology at Sauk Valley Community College.  My wife of 38 years, Susan, is a registered nurse at CGH Medical Center.

I took office as Mayor of Sterling in May, 2011.  I have served on the City Council, Library Board, Congressman Phil Hare’s Service Academy Selection Board, and been involved with various community organizations.  I am also a Field Admissions Representative for the U.S. Naval Academy (Annapolis), U.S. Military Academy (West Point), and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (King’s Point).
