In This Department

The Sterling Police Department continually strives to accomplish its mission to promote, preserve, and deliver a feeling of security, safety and quality service to the Sterling community.  In 1991, we began our transition into Community Policing. Today, we continue to experiment and evolve in that direction.

Our focus now is twofold; to work with citizens and government to improve the quality of life in Sterling and also to concentrate on the youth of the community.  In 1996, then newly appointed Police Chief Potthoff designated the following priorities, which the department would seek to undertake:

1. Seek out and involve all members of the Community in the process of identifying and solving Community problems.
2. Empower our employees, civilian and sworn, at all levels and ranks to interact with the Community in this problem solving process.
3. Work together with our citizens to promote, preserve and deliver a feeling of security, safety and quality services to our Community.
